Cruzian Christmas Festival from Joseph Bramble

On the Island of ST. Croix, United States Virgin Islands during the months of December and January we celebrate our annual Christmas festivities.  These festivities attract a large number of visitors from around the world.  On December 26, which locally, is know as “Boxing Day” is the official kick off day of festivities.  This day is the traditional opening ceremony of the Christmas Village.  The Village is open for about five days.  At the Village we have a wide variety of local foods and drinks for sale and for entertainment we have a wide variety of performances, both locally and from around the Caribbean, which range from band, Mocojumbees, King and Queen of the Band, ect.  There is also a wide variety of rides and games to keep both children and adults entertained all night long.

In addition to the Christmas Village, there are two other events worth mentioning.  The first is the “Boat Parade, which takes place in the evening on the Christiansted Warf.  Boats are lined up and follow route around Hotel on the Cay.  Local boats are adorned with creative Christmas decorations as on-lookers stand in awh.  For the grand finale, there is a blistering array of fireworks which can be seen from miles away.

The other is the Children’s and the Adult’s Parade which usually takes place the second weekend in January.  The Children’s Parade is traditionally held the day before the Adults Parade.  We have a lot of schools and youth groups that participate during this annual event in groups called “Troops”. The Adults Parade is where everything is taken to a whole other level as revelers parade down the street showing off their best dance moves and just having lots of fun.  This is usually an all day even which ends its route at the Christmas Village.  So get the family together and come out and have some fun in Americas Paradise.  See you there!!!
